Located approximately one hour north
of Toronto, in the rolling hills of the Town of
Caledon, Glenholme Jerseys currently consists of
120 head of purebred cattle and 375 acres of
worked land. Founder of the farm, Stewart Mellow,
brought the first Jersey calf home in 1932. The
first purebred Jersey was registered under the
Glenholme prefix in 1937. The Glenholme herd has
been classified and on an official milk recording
program since 1940. Stewart's son, Robert, took
over the family operation in 1963. He was joined
by his son, Bruce, in 1977 after completion of
his education. In 1980, the official father and
son partnership began. Glenholme's
current production and BCA are 6022 kg milk, 291
kg fat and 228 kg protein, and (201-179-200) on 56 records. Today's herd classifications consist
of two Supreme Excellent, 16 Excellent, 21 Very Good, 14 Good
Plus and eight not classified. Several home-bred bulls,
including Glenholme Silver Generator, Glenholme
Royalty, Glenholme Titan and Glenholme Counciller, have been used throughout herds
across Canada with much success and are making
their mark today.
